چکیده

IT gives me great pleasure to introduce José F. Martínez as the new Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the IEEE Computer Architecture Letters (CAL). A committee chaired by Professor Moin Qureshi conducted the search process for the EIC role. The position was advertised in IEEE Computer, on the web, and in other media. Multiple candidates were considered, and the committee presented its recommendation in favor of Prof. Martínez to the IEEE Computer Society Publications Board in January 2013. David Alan Grier, president of the IEEE Computer Society, offi cially appointed him to the position of EIC, effective 11 February 2013. Prof. Martínez had already served as interim EIC during the search, after I stepped down in July 2012 to take over as chair of my department. He took over as interim EIC after serving as Associate Editor-in-Chief (AEIC) of CAL from April 2011 to July 2012. Prof. Martínez brings an outstanding background to this task. Before serving as AEIC, he was an Associate Editor for CAL from August 2010 to March 2011. He is currently on the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, having earned the PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. He has published extensively in computer architecture, and his work is highly cited. His work has earned several awards: two IEEE Micro Top Picks papers, an HPCA Best Paper Award, a US National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and the inaugural Computer Science Distinguished Educator Alumnus Award from the University of Illinois. He has also been recognized with a 2005 Kenneth A. Goldman 1971 Excellence in Teaching Award, as a 2007 Merrill Presidential Teacher, and as the 2011 Tau Beta Pi Professor of the Year in the College of Engineering. In addition to his work for CAL, he has served and continues to do so on many program committees of the top conferences in our fi eld. As you know, CAL aims to provide fast-turnaround for early work with outstanding promise. The majority of decisions are returned within one month, nearly all within six weeks, and all decisions are rendered within two months. The overall acceptance rate has consistently run at about 25 percent. Many papers fi rst published in CAL go on to become full papers in premier conferences and journals, and CAL’s impact factor continues to increase. CAL has been a valuable addition to the publishing landscape in computer architecture and under Prof. Martínez’s leadership, we can look forward to even greater impact in the future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the CAL Associate Editors, authors, readers, and reviewers for their great help and support. Helping to found CAL, and serving as its AEIC and then EIC, has been a wonderful privilege. I would also like to thank the staff of the IEEE Computer Society, particularly Alicia Stickley, Kathleen Henry, and Kimberly Sperka, for their support, dedication, and hard work. Prof. Martínez is dedicated to extending CAL’s visibility and impact, while maintaining and improving its already high quality. CAL is in very capable hands.

A Message from the New Editor-in-Chief and Introduction of New Associate Editors

My fi rst submission experience to IEEE Computer Architecture Letters (CAL) was nothing like any other conference or journal submission before. Reviews were back in under a month, and yet they were thorough and insightful. The reviewers did not get lost in the evaluation details; instead, they zeroed in on the innovation, or as one reviewer put it, the “wow factor.” Yale Patt, the Editor-in-Chi...
